Revelation chapter 10
|
Q.: What does Revelation chapter ten mean? It means the
following:
|
V 1."And I saw a mighty angel come down from heaven,
clothed with a cloud; and a rainbow on his head, and his face as it were the
sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.
V 2. "And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the
sea, and his left foot on the earth."
Note, the only other place we find an angel stand with one foot upon the
sea and the other on earth or Land, is in Daniel. Therefore it is easy to
conclude that the little book in the angel's hand is the prophetic book of
Daniel unlocking symbols.
V 3. "And he cried with a loud voice, as a lion roars: and when he had cried, seven
thunders uttered their voice.">
V 4. "And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and
I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven
thunders uttered, and write them not."
V 5. "And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up
his hand to heaven."
V 6. "And he sware by him that lives forever and ever, who created heaven, and the
things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the
sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:"
The Creator GOD by whom the angel sweares is non other
than JESUS CHRIST [Heb 1:2] and prophetic time would end here, and as the
next verse tells us, that we are in the time of the sixth trumpet.
V 7. "But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound,
the mystery of God should be finished, as he has declared to his servants the
prophets."
V 8. "And the voice which I heard from heaven spoke unto me again, and said, Go and
take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which stands upon
the sea and upon the earth."
Now we notice that Rev.9 closed with the events of the sixth trumpet. The
sounding of the seventh trumpet is not introduced until we reach
Rev.11:15. He had a little book open. We may infer from this
language that this book was at some time closed.
We read in Daniel (the companion book of Revelation), "Thou
O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end:
many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased."---Daniel
12:4 KJV
Since this book was closed only until the time of the end, it follows
that at the time of the end, the book would be opened. But when would be
the time of the end is the question. In Dan.8:17 we read: "Understand
O son of man; for at the time of the end shall be the vision."
Protestantism had always maintained that the little horn power in Daniel is none
other than the Papacy. Catholicism insist that the little horn of Daniel's
prophecy is the small insignificant Persian ruler Antiochus Epiphanes.
But have a look for yourselves, Daniel in the vision calls the 'ram'
great. He calls the 'goat' very great. But the' little horn' grew
exceedingly great. If the goat that represents Alexander the Great, is
called very great, then the Bishop of Rome, when placed on the throne of the
Roman World Empire, is the man we are looking for "he grew exceedingly great".
V 9. "And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little
book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make
thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey."
V 10. "And I took the little book out of the
angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey; and as soon
as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter."
The eating up of the book [or scroll] is also echoed in Jeremiah: "Thy
words were found and I ate them, and thy words became to me a joy and the
delight of my heart."---Jer. 15:16 RSV
V 11. "And he said to me, Thou must prophecy again
before many people, and nations, and tongues, and kings."-Revelation (Apocalypse) 10:1-11 KJV
These eaten words are prophecy because the angel said that you must prophecy
again before many nations, and also means that this prophecy was given before.
The only two times in the history of Christianity
this happened on a large scale, was the great and bitter disappointment when the
disciples thought they had lost JESUS forever and the other when the Millerite
Movement of the early Adventists proclaimed the "advent" or "coming" of JESUS in
1844 A.D. anticipating with great joy the coming of their beloved Lord.
Miller had rightly calculated the 2300 days of years starting with 457 B.C. and
ending in 1844 but mistakenly believed the earth to be the sanctuary with the
rest of Christianity at that time. Since the earthly Sanctuary Temple was out of
commission, it can only refer to the heavenly where JESUS CHRIST officiates as
our great high Priest.
Note: In the original, there are no divisions! Chapter 10 flows into ch.11. It
shows that this message sweet as honey but the bitter effect after it was
digested, speaks of the heavenly Sanctuary.
"Unto 2300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." was the message of
Miller and Daniel 8:14. This annual cleansing was also understood to mean the
day of judgment [Yom Kippur] or at-one-ment. And Revelation 11:1,2 speaks of
"measuring" that worship there by faith. Measuring up, is a type of judgment
later pronounced by the later Adventists, the Seventh Day Adventist announcing
the first angel's message of Revelation 14:6-12 that the hour of GOD'S judgment
had begun, also reflected by Revelation 11:18,19.
If Christ had not anticipated that there would be the true manifestation of the
gift of prophecy at the same time that He warned of the false, He would no doubt
have said something like this: “Beware of anyone who professes to be a prophet,
for there will be no prophets in those days.” Jesus made no such statement as
that; He simply issued a warning for all to be careful about the kind of
prophets they heeded. The implication is clear that the true gift would coexist
with the false, and that it would be necessary for the remnant people to choose
between good and evil prophets.
So as we shall see in Revelation chapter 11 that it speaks of the heavenly
Sanctuary Temple of GOD where the measuring is a type of judgment.
